FYI: A coalition of South Bronx community groups, dubbed the Southern Bronx River Watershed Alliance, says the solution to traffic flow and access problems for trucks heading to Hunts Point’s food and fish markets is simple: tear down the Sheridan Expressway. The state Department of Transportation is considering plans to expand the interchange for Sheridan and Bruckner Expressways. The coalition is pushing DOT to instead build a new access route to Hunts Point’s industrial area off of the Bruckner, allowing it to demolish the Sheridan, which the coalition says is underused and prevents the development of waterfront parks and housing. DOT has thus far not formally accepted the groups’ proposal. will rally at the Bronx Borough Hall this afternoon to demand their plan at least be considered. [3/13/03]
