Neighborhood advocates say the city’s methods of analysis generally underestimate the potential of a rezoning to trigger redevelopment and displacement—but also don’t get why this non-profit, protected building is on the list of developable sites.

News from the City Council this week includes the passage of the Downtown Far Rockaway rezoning, the approval of a temporary relocation site for the District 11 Sanitation Garage and forward momentum for the African Burial Ground Project.
The administration presented new investments and new height limits for some portions of the rezoning, but most residents and stakeholders said they still strongly disproved of the city’s rezoning proposal.
