Upcoming Housing and Land Use-Related Events:

Thursday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m.: A coalition of organizations, elected officials and justice-involved individuals who have been denied based on their criminal history will rally in support of the Fair Chance for Housing Act, would make it illegal for property owners to perform criminal background checks, or inquire about arrest or conviction information at any stage in the application process. Bill sponsor, Council Majority Leader Keith Powers, will join the rally along with several colleagues ahead of a hearing. More here.

Thursday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m.: The City Council’s Committee on Civil and Human Rights will vote on the Fair Chance for Housing Act after the rally at 9 a.m at City Hall. More details here.

Monday, Dec. 12 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.: The National Low-Income Housing Coalition, National Alliance to End Homelessness and Center on Budget and Policy Priorities will host a national webinar on “Threats to Housing First,” providing an overview of state, local and federal legislation seeking to implement the housing first approaching to ending homelessness. Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 9:30 a.m.: The City Council’s Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Sitings and Dispositions meets to review landmarks applications in Manhattan and Brooklyn. More here.

Wednesday, Dec 14 at 10 a.m.: The Committee on Public Housing is hosting a meeting regarding winter preparedness, including heat and hot water access, across NYCHA’s developments. More information here.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m.: The City Planning Commission is holding a public meeting to discuss various rezoning and relocation projects in Queens, The Bronx, and Brooklyn. These meetings are accessible in-person, online, or via phone to participate. More details here.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development will be on location at help enroll individuals in health insurance and determine eligibility for food assistance, in front of the New Lots Library at 665 New Lots Ave. More details here.

Thursday, Dec. 15 at 4:45 p.m.: The organizations Care for the Homeless and Urban Pathways will host an annual Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day observance at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church: Bonnell Hall at 7 West 55th St. in Manhattan. More information here.
