There are 468 stations in the New York City subway system. Only 78 are wheelchair accessible—meaning the fully accessible system here is just a hair larger than Philadelphia’s SEPTA network. While a lot of issues are competing for attention this campaign season—there was a forum last night devoted to food issues and there’s a press release out today about animal rights—disability policy is deserving of a little attention. As we reported in February, advocates aren’t thrilled with Mayor Bloomberg’s record on the issue.
