Upcoming Housing and Land Use-Related Events:

Thursday, Dec. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.: The New York Housing Conference hosts its annual awards symposium, featuring a keynote address from Gov. Kathy Hochul. Learn more about the event and RSVP here.

Thursday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.: The organization Take Root Justice will offer a presentation on how tenants can bring an emergency repair case against a property owner in Housing Court. Such cases are called “HP Actions” and can relate to heat and hot water outages. Register for the virtual presentation here.

Monday, Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m.: The Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement will hold a virtual hearing on a rule to implement Local Law 18, which requires short-term rental hosts to register with the city and prohibits booking services from processing transactions for unregistered listings. Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: City & State magazine is hosting an event on solutions to the affordable housing crisis in New York, with speeches and panels by New York City Chief Housing Officer Jessica Katz, Planning Director Dan Garodnick, State Sen. Brian Kavanagh and other leaders in the housing sector. Participants will discuss affordable housing subsidies, land use rules and rezonings. Learn more and RSVP here

Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m.: The NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss proposed sites in Queens and Manhattan. More here

Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m.: The City Council’s Committee on Housing and Buildings is holding an oversight hearing about enforcement of the housing maintenance code and will discuss bills about raising inspection fees and penalties for violators. This will be held at the Committee Room at City Hall. More information here

Thursday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m.:  The City Council’s Committee on Civil and Human Rights will hold a hearing on legislation to prohibit housing discrimination in rentals, sales, leases, subleases, or occupancy agreements in New York City, on the basis of arrest record or criminal history.
