Veteran reporter Adam Wisnieski, who began reporting our stories on the private-security industry in December, ran into an interesting problem early in the project: Despite the swelling size of the security-officer field, and the growing responsibilities placed on the people who work in it, there was a surprising lack of research on the industry or its employees. That made his job harder, but it wasn’t all bad news: It was a sure signal that we’d found a story in need of being told.
Wisnieski has previously anchored City Limits’ reporting on our water series and on the murky world of MWBE contracting and is responsible for some of our strongest work on government transparency. He sat down with WNYC this week to discuss his most recent project.
