Story of the Day: Report: City Knew of Bronx New School Contamination 6 Months AgoAccording to a Daily News story out today, a contractor performing tests at the Bronx New School’s cafeteria found high levels of trichlorethylene (otherwise known as TCE) contamination as early as January. In March, underneath the school’s basement floorboard, the contractor discovered TCE contamination levels that were 10,000 times higher than what the state deems safe.
Once again, New York City’s senior centers avoided a disastrous budget cut this year. But the passing of that threat masks a subtler one: the gradual erosion of the once-proud array of services New York City offers its elderly.
As many as one in five child welfare cases involves a parent with a mental health diagnosis, creating challenges for parents, children and caseworkers. Advocates say efforts to address those challenges haven’t gone far enough.
