FYI: Donations from private sector sources to the country’s 400 largest nonprofits fell 1.2 percent in 2002, after increasing an average of 12 percent a year for the past five years, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy. But the paper’s annual survey found the biggest hit in the arts, where private sector donations to the 14 largest arts groups fell 26.5 percent.
