FYI: The AFL-CIO announced an initiative this morning to invest $400 million over the next year in building multi-family housing units in 12 cities, including New York City. The union will tap its $1.5 billion Building Investment Trust for the project, which it says will produce “thousands” of multi-family housing units and “millions of hours” of union construction work. The initiative’s first investment will be in Kew Gardens, where it’s partnering with Dermont Company to build a 12-story mixed-income building, where 78 of the 388 units are set aside for low-income tenants.
