FYI: Nearly two-thirds of 100 homeless young parents who participated in a survey published Wednesday were not receiving welfare benefits. Of those who hadn’t even applied for TANF, half had no idea they could. The National Network for Youth and the Center for Law and Social Policy canvassed young homeless parents—largely in their late teens and early 20s—asking about their experiences with TANF. Those who had been enrolled in TANF expressed the greatest frustration with rules requiring them to live with a guardian, noting that many homeless youth have fled unsafe conditions at home.
