Are empty hotels to be used only for supportive housing? Of course we have a homeless housing crisis but can empty hotels also be converted to co-op homeownership opportunities for the working poor.
Given that most hotels for sale are in the outer boroughs the end result will be pushing the homeless out of Manhattan. Some consideration should be given to utilizing some hotels for housing options beyond just for the homeless. Hotels can be converted into apartments also.

I hope that there is really good screening of tenants to avoid the disaster of most family shelters, the set up of a tenants’ association to get input and cooperation from lucky homeless and a priority given to long term city residents who pay for – but seldom see – the benefits of these housing opportunities.
