What we should also look at is who’s behind who in this race.

Tapia is being advised by former (and convicted) Assemblyman Nelson Castro and disgraced former State Senator Marisol Alcantara.

Aquino’s campaign is led by former (and convicted) Councilman Miguel Martinez and Father Fajardo from the Holy Spirit Church, who recently stepped aside while an investigation is underway for allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.

    Does this not worry anybody?

Pierina Sanchez is by far the best candidate. Experienced, hard-working, talented and from District 14. And most importantly, she is an all around fabulous human being!

Both Adolfo Abreu and Pierina Sanchez are qualified when it comes to knowledge of city policy and politics, but Abreu has far more knowledge of the district & more experience making change. Although being from the district, Sanchez’s life trajectory took her to elite institutions and safe mainstream jobs. Abreu also got a degree from a fine university he stayed more connected to the community even while away at college. He knows what it means to be on the doors recruiting people to attend meetings in the lobbies and church basements – not just for elections, but for local grassroots efforts to win stronger tenant protections and more enforcement of current housing laws, to get more school seats and better supports for students and teachers, as a teenager and young adult he organized with other young people to dismantle the school to prison pipeline, to stop over-policing in the West Bronx and across the city, as part of the NWBCCC he joined efforts to keep vital pediatric, emergency and maternal care at North Central Bx Hospital. He understands the neighborhoods of the 14th district block by block, school by school, church by church, store by store, as only a long-term community organizer can. He understands progressive policies and philosophy but more importantly he knows how to fight for, and win those policies.
