    A whole hearted YES! Educate union members about unionism. That is true empowerment. I feel we are being led by a leash.

    There is no reason at all to trust the UFT after what they are doing to the retirees. And that goes for Garrido and DC37 as well.

      It should be emphasized that this MA scheme will encompass ALL future retirees, i.e. current employees, upon their retirements as well. It’s an enormous windfall for Aetna and illegal payoffs have not be ruled out. What I’m interested in hearing is how our municipal labor unions will credibly object to future privatization having enthusiastically pushed this MA scheme. Medicare for None is not a good look for Labor!

    Arthur Goldstein is 100% correct. As a retired teacher I’m so upset about what is going on. Those living in NYC may have a chance at doctors, in other states- they are finding no one accepting!

    The unions response above, typical of this whole debacle is not accurate. The unions have weighted votes on the MLC. The ONLY unions supporting were UFT and DC 37. That’s all that was needed. Other unions either voted no or didn’t vote! Honesty is NOT the unions strong suit!

    A born in & brought up & attended SUNY, NY COLLEGE. I went CALIFORNIA. All my years here I discovered CA TEACHERS ASSOCIATIONS: Local, Regional & State Teachers Associations most often Sided with School Districts. I was never provided a “Witten Contract.”
    I often discovered that Association(s) Decisions were AGAINST the Logical. Honest, TEACHER CONCERNS re: Health BENEFITS, HEALTH & SAFETY PROBLEMS WITHIN SCHOOLS, TEACHERS & STUDENTS BECOMING ILL FROM UNHEATHY CLASSROOMS, DISTRICT RETALIATION AGAINST TEACHERS “LEGALLY MANDATED REPORTER” OBLIGATIONS, WORKERS COMPENSATION, RETAILIATION AGAINST THOSE WHO LEGITAMITTANTLY FILED FOR WORKETS COMPENSATION BENEFITS & THEN SLANDER & LIBLE & FALSE STATEMENTS MADE
    BY DISTRICTS & CARRIERS TO DENY WORK COMP BENFITS. THOSE FALSE STATEMENTS MADE AT WORK COMP WERE USED TO LATER USED TO “FORCE OUT” THE TEACHERS AFTER YEARS OF POSITIVE EVALUATIONS BY DISTRICTS & PARENTS OF
    EFFECTIVE TEACHING, ACADEMIC & SOCIAL GAINS BY STUDENTS & POSITIVE LETTERS BY PARENTS. (that were to be put in Teachers’ Personnel File. THE POSITIVES WERE NEVER INTRODUCED AT GRIEVANCES NOR AT WORK COMP. TEACHERS ARE BEING MISTREATED, HARRASSED, RETAILIATED AT WORK & FINANCIALLY. THEN “DEATH THREATS” IF THE TEACHER(s) do Not Agree to the FINANCIALLY DEVASTSTING “Early Retirement” offers.
    (That were actually “FORCING TEACHER(s) OUT.) My observation is that
    Education (years 1979-2000+) has become similar to “Organized Crime.
