Opinion: City and State Leaders Fail to Protect New Yorkers from Auto Violence

    ‘…the Dangerous Vehicle Abatement (Reckless Driver) bill Mayor de Blasio signed into law back in February 2020 allows the city to seize vehicles with five red-light camera or 15 speed camera violations within a 12-month period, unless the operator completes a driver safety course…’

    Most likely an unconstitutional seizing of private property. If the vehicle owner has paid the fines the vehicle can’t be seized. And the cameras can’t identify the actual driver. Police issued tickets are the only valid ones because the driver is identified.

    More and more middle-class New Yorkers are buying cars for many reasons. Covid, crime and filth in the subways, freedom of mobility, etc.
