Upcoming housing and land use-related events:
- Tuesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The Department of Housing Preservation and Development will be at Councilmember Gale Brewer’s Upper West Side office (563 Columbus Ave.) to offer help for both landlords and tenants (affordable housing applications, filing a complaint, making repairs, etc.). - Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m.: The City Planning Commission will vote on the 1455 Coney Island Avenue Rezoning, 135-27 Sapphire Street Rezoning, and 108-05 68th Road Rezoning. The Commission will also hold public hearings for the following applications: Con Edison Permanent Easement Gateway Microtunnel, South Richmond Designated Open Space Amendment, and Studio 54 Rehabilitation and Text Amendment. - Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 2 a.m.: United Cultural Association will hold a free informational session to help people apply for SCRIE (Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption) and DRIE (Disability Rent Increase Exemption). More here.
- Thursday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m.: The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) will hold a hearing on proposed changes to city rules related to the New York City Energy Conservation Code, to implement code requirements necessitated by updates to the New York State Energy Code. More here.
- Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.: Cooper Square Committee will host a screening of “A Home Worth Fighting For” which follows the opposition to the city’s plan to demolish and redevelop NYCHA’s Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses. The screening will include a discussion between director Natasha Florentino, Elliott-Chelsea Tenant Association President Renee Keitt, and Layla Law-Gisiko, president of the City Club of New York. NYC Affordable Housing Lotteries: The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) are closing lotteries on the following subsidized buildings over the next week.
- 3510 Glenwood Road, Brooklyn, for households earning between $109,920 – $198,510 (last day to apply is 8/25)
- Watjean Apartments, Queens, for households earning between $97,406 – $146,560 (last day to apply is 8/27)
- Vernon Central aka 49-18 Vernon Blvd, Queens, for households earning between $107,418 – $198,510 (last day to apply is 8/27)
- 3034 & 3036 Barnes Avenue Apartments, Bronx, for households earning between $92,812 – $238,160 (last day to apply is 8/27)
- Columbia Commons I, Brooklyn, for households earning between $30,446 – $183,200 (last day to apply is 8/28)
- 7910 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, for households earning between $99,738 – $238,160 (last day to apply is 8/31)
