Midtown Homeless Drop-In Center May Be Among City Budget Casualties

    It is so wrong to close this drop in center! I’m guessing this is an attempt to “clean up” the streets in the Penn Station/Port Authority area. I live in this neighborhood and the homeless are literally dying on the streets and the City is doing very little about it.

    How many other small organizations have had their drop-in center contracts terminated at this point in time? They should present as an organized group to advocate for consideration. As part of a continuum of ways to engage and serve unhoused individuals, Drop-in Centers meet certain needs different from Safe Havens with beds.

    The suspicion about the value of the real estate is noteworthy.
