Upcoming housing and land use-related events:
- Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.: New Economy Project and other supporters of the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act (COPA) will rally on the steps of City Hall in support of the legislation. More here.
- Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.: The City Planning Commission will hold a special session to review the following land use applications: 1455 Coney Island Avenue Rezoning and 100-12 Queens Boulevard Rezoning. More here.
- Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.: The NYC Council’s Committee on Housing and Buildings will hold an oversight hearing on Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s “Block by Block” housing plan, where lawmakers will discuss several housing-related bills, including the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act, or COPA, which would give pre-qualified nonprofits an early shot at bidding on certain distressed apartment buildings. - Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.: The Department of Buildings will hold a hearing on proposed rules for the Expedited Land Use Review Procedure and Affordable Housing Appeals Board, a new entity approved by voters via ballot measures last year. More here.
- Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m.: The NYC Council’s Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises will meet regarding the following land use applications: 815 Hutchinson River Parkway, 862-868 Kent Avenue, 158-06 Northern Boulevard, 132 Melrose Street Rezoning, 21-31 46th Ave Rezoning, Fort Hamilton Mews Rezoning, Park Avenue Brooklyn Rezoning, Sojourner Truth – Mapes Rezoning, 69-67 108th Street Rezoning and 289 Kent Avenue Rezoning. - Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m.: Brooklyn Community Board 7 will hold a public hearing on a on land use application for 364 Coney Island Avenue, where a developer is proposing a 12-story building with 71 apartments. More here.
- Thursday, Sept. 10 at 9:30 a.m.: The NYC Council’s Committee on Cultural Affairs, Libraries and International Relations will meet regarding a bill that would require the city to report and map historical African American burial sites. More here.
- Thursday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s outreach van will be in Councilmember Farrah Louis’ district (1434 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn) to provide assistance with housing issues. More here.
- Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.: NYS Empire State Development Corporation will provide an update to Brooklyn Community Board 8 on the proposed Atlantic Yards Redevelopment Project Phase II, which will focus on the development of the railyard sites along Atlantic Avenue between 6th Avenue and Vanderbilt Avenue, and Site 5 (P.C. Richards and former Modell’s). More here.
NYC Affordable Housing Lotteries: The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) are closing lotteries on the following subsidized buildings over the next week.
- 1976 Needham Avenue, Bronx, for households earning between $74,880 – $146,560 (last day to apply is 9/8)
- Starhill Phase II, Bronx, for households earning between $30,446 – $126,240 (last day to apply is 9/8)
- 23-57 31st Street Apartments, Queens, for households earning between $79,440 – $122,160 (last day to apply is 9/15)
- 2074 Honeywell Avenue, Bronx, for households earning between $75,840 – $122,160 (last day to apply is 9/15)
