Queens Community Board 14 hosted a public hearing Wednesday, March 29, at 7 p.m. on the city’s proposed rezoning of Far Rockaway, followed by a vote on the city’s proposal. In the raw video above, the action starts at 40:00.
In what came as a surprise to some, the board voted to approve with conditions the city’s proposed rezoning of downtown Far Rockaway by a vote of 26 to 2. Read full coverage here.

The passing of the re-zoning plan by Community Board #14 is the key component in restoring downtown Far Rockaway to it past glory days when it was referred to as “The Village”. While the Downtown Far Rockaway Plan still has challenges – density, height, traffic congestion, parking, etc., this vote enables our community and government to work in collaboration so that we get it right for the future generations that will benefit from our efforts.
