Parks groups and BIDs believe the city has tried to offload legal liability onto small organizations that are built to rally volunteers and sweep plazas, not battle lawsuits.
Over the past few weeks, advocacy groups, veteran volunteers, and everyday residents across the five boroughs have stepped up to form groups and projects that assist vulnerable New Yorkers.
The group, which started on Facebook, helps connect volunteers with those in need of things like groceries and medicine. ‘We are really overwhelmed with these calls,’ one member said.
