This article sounds very similar to the experience of the tenants in our 40-unit apartment building in the west village. We’ve experienced 10 years of dangerous lead & asbestos-disturbing [both tested] renovations while 30+ rent-stabilized apartments were gutted & converted to market rate units… all without any tenant protections in place. The building permit applications falsely claimed that no tenants resided in the building. Stop work orders and many violations were issued by DOB & DHCR but the work continued.
How is it that there are OSHA regulations to protect construction workers from such hazards but virtually no serious protections for New York tenants when our homes are turned into construction sites?
