    The piece makes a compelling case that state-level policy choices are increasingly shaping the real-world experience of immigrants, especially as federal enforcement priorities continue to shift. Measures like the New York for All Act raise important questions about how states balance public safety coordination with community trust and due process protections.

    It would be useful to see more empirical data from jurisdictions that have already limited local–federal cooperation. Have these policies measurably affected reporting of crimes, court compliance, or community stability over time?
