Longtime NYC Nonprofit Rebrands Around Key Notion: Homelessness is Solvable

The subsidization of homeownership guarantees poverty for renters. Renters have to pay higher taxes than they would otherwise pay so that homeowners can lower their own taxes, thereby enabling them to buy a home. These homeowner “tax benefits” drive up the price of homes by artificially making homes more valuable than they would otherwise be. Ask any real estate agent—without those tax breaks, the price of homes would drop. And rents would also drop.

Renters think they are being screwed ONLY by high rent. Most renters do not understand homeowners use the Federal deduction of mortgage-interest and state and local taxes to exempt themselves from $200 billion taxes, each year. Do renters also exempt themselves from $200 billion in Federal taxes? Where does the money come from to cover that $200 billion DEFICIT in the Federal budget? That money comes from renters via the tax code (written by homeowners).

This Special Accounting Trick gives homeowners an entitlement of $200 billion per year paid for by renters. What is ‘special’ about the Special Accounting Trick is how easily you housing activists are fooled by this, and how quickly you homeowners lie about impoverishing renters.

You say anyone can become a homeowner, which is another lie. If everyone became a homeowner, homeowner’s Federal tax bill would skyrocket because there would be no more renters left to pay for what homeowners don’t pay when they give themselves that $200 billion subsidy.

You “housing activists” support programs to help people become homeowners, thereby preventing renters from becoming a majority and stopping this thievery. You do not represent housing justice, you simply want more minorities to join this thievery.

This economic slavery of renters is acceptable to you, and you don’t want this issue discussed publicly. You do nothing to stop this tyranny, either because of your own hypocrisy or because you are too dumb to understand the real problem.
