Many of the hospital closures were part of a plan to turn hospitals into real estate. Think of st. vincent’s , lich, beth israel north( the old doctors hospital). The real estate industry contributed to the pols and the pols turned hospitals into condos for the rich.. Cuomo and DeBlasio were part of this and need to be held accountable. At lease Cuomo is making sense now,,DeBlasio is a failure and a joke

I was working in Administration at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital for almost two decades and I just retired at the beginning of this year partially because of the impending closure. Now I am back there as a volunteer because this is an “all hands on deck” situation with the Covid-19 pandemic. I would love to see MMVH remain open now that it’s value to the community has been so clearly demonstrated. Also, I live right in the neighborhood and it would be reassuring to know that I could get there FAST if I have a medical emergency. Fingers crossed!

Health care planning mechanisms and the dangers of the “survival of the fittest” method of reducing the size of the hospital system have led some hospitals and hospital associations to undertake programs of conversion of acute care beds, long-range citywide and statewide planning for reduction in the number of beds, and multiple use of beds, units, or entire hospitals.
