You do not give enough information
On why do many oppose this plan and why the MIH will not work here and could in fact produce a net loss of affordable housing. You also do not mention the racism involved
In demolishing a section of Chinatown which includes Asian and Asian-American low income tenants and businesses. The only proponents of this plan is OpenNY which is a pro- developer group. Please do a deep dive!

This article fails to explain why there is opposition to the plan and why so many progressive politicians have come out against it. it is a massive give away to developers and there is no guarantee that one unit of affordable housing will be created. Quite the opposite. There are 635 rent stabilized units in danger of displacement. With increased FAR, landlords will be incentivized to demolish buildings in order to build large towers displacing low-income and rent stabilized tenants or to build on top of existing landmark buildings and cause eviction by construction. Furthermore, the plan is racist. The plan would allow for the demolition of a section of Chinatown and the displacement of Asian and Asian-American low-income tenants and small businesses. The Chinatown community has been excluded from out reach by the Department of Planning throughout the process. The major proponents of this plan is a group, OpenNY which is a pro-developer group. Time for a deep dive into this matter!!

“But housing advocates across New York have backed the plan after long urging Mayor Bill de Blasio”

And many housing advocates OPPOSE the de Blasio’s plan, like TenantsPAC, Lower Manhattan Loft Tenants and Broadway Residents Committee, to name a few.

    Why was that fact omitted?
