The irony of the [original] picture is not lost on some. Chenchita’s Garden is one of six gardens that was destroyed by DSNY to make way for Sendero Verde. You should go and visit and publish a picture of what it looks like now and show the contrast between the two.

What about the question: how can the city make sure that existing, magnificent open spaces are not destroyed? Each year, existing community gardens are being lost. A great, current example of a long-beloved space that is on the verge of being shut down is Elizabeth Street Garden. You can ready more — and consider getting involved to save this garden — here: https://www.elizabethstreetgarden.com/
