“it is no surprise that as white residents shifted out of NYCHA in the mid 1950’s, so did public funding at every level of government”

NYCHA used to be choosy as to who can live in their apartments, preferring people of good character and credit, as typically practiced by landlords and managements of private housing. Because the SC ruled that NYCHA is a public entity, it can longer be discriminating. It must also accept all kinds of people such as jerks, aholes, and morons who exhibited little or no respect for NYCHA property and their neighbors. That’s when the quality of the developments steadily fell. NYCHA was long forced to spend enormous amounts of money annually to repair and replace property. Many of the residents are also deadbeats who fail to pay their fair share of rent, depriving NYCHA of much needed funds to overall enhance its assets. It also takes money to take these deadbeats to housing court. There are other issues as well…….

But yeah, let’s conveniently blame “racism” for all its woes.
