Opinion: It’s Time for NYC to Think Outside the Composting Box

The DSNY composting program was proven to be very unpopular, twice. New Yorkers are smart enough to realize that the composting pails would stink up their neighborhoods despite what the DSNY says. Eliminating the pointless composting program will free up budget dollars to save weekly refuse/recycling collections from being cut. Another way to save money would be to eliminate alternate side parking (ASP) street sweeping rules in outer borough neighborhoods where it’s not needed. Many of the neighborhoods that don’t currently have ASP sweepers are the cleanest in the city.
