The data is faulty and bail reform evidence of being effective is giving many a false sense of success. The same woman is breaking into my building repeatedly, stealing packages and building supplies and other buildings are reporting the same. The police arrest her but it’s meaningless because of bail reform.

It’s not meaningless because of bail reform. It’s meaningless because nothing else is being done to address the situation. Please don’t forget, bail reform did not just come out of thin air. It came because the status quo wasn’t working. All it does is ensure that people aren’t detained unnecessarily and systems aren’t overwhelmed by jailing people on low-level charges. There is a ton more that needs to be done to address these cases differently.

All very noble intentions, but we have to face reality on reality’s terms. I think a more important factor explaining the pervading sense of chaos and impunity is the DA’s reluctance to charge people with bail eligible crimes. Bail-eligible felonies are routinely dropped to misdemeanors by Bragg’s office. Judges and bail laws are just one component of the system.

How does the kid manhandling the cop and putting him in a chokehold in the subway get out without bail? Not to mention he had an open robbery case? The video is the very definition of violent. This law is ridiculous and no amount of spin can change that fact

Just saw Michael Rempel on Fox 5 NY news. No way your studies are correct. An insult to NYers. Covid is causing crime surge, not lackluster laws? What a disaster.
