Older buildings like the ones in the Financial District can be converted to residential because they are smaller this allowing for apartments with windows. Most modern office buildings have large windowless interiors which cannot be rebuilt into apartments.

Then there are things like having to remove some of the elevator banks in modern office buildings because a residnetial building needs fewer elevators. What about the water/sewer lines. A residential apartment building will use more water than an office building. No one is thinking this through.

Terrible idea. Office space will be more important for the economy than ever. Office space =jobs. Why not use the thousands of empty luxury apartments instead???? . This is a distraction to save luxury rental and condo owners who are big political donors from criticism. Office space, specially in the boroughs should be saved and expanded. One office building houses hundreds of jobs from office workers, secretaries, janitors. Residential buildings maybe 1 or 2? It was the explosion of luxury residential development that eliminated over 1 million sq feet of office space in Downtown Brooklyn by conversion and demolition. This let to the loss of thousands of jobs. Dont do it.

As long as they pay for all properties at market values and not take via eminent domain, and work with the owners. Also,
please include 2-4 family housing working with those property owners with houses currently for sale and buyer are not leaving their houses in every NYC borough to come out to buy them and again pay market values of 2020 in respective zipcds and property units per house.
