Excellent article. I work for CCS and have also been homeless. I have an unique perspective on homelessness. CCS is what it is as a non-profit. They purposely hire candidates with little experience working with vulnerable populations. The ongoing results of poorly trained staff and shelter families with children staying longer in temporary housing directly reflects the leadership of this agency. The little governmental oversight and softened penalties against wrongdoing nonprofit agencies will continue to be a reality. What’s unfortunate is the amount of funding CCS has received should align with its ability to move families with children out of shelters and into permanent and affordable housing, but the results show yet another contractor that puts profits over the well-being of its consumers.
