Kessler & his Open NY cronies are neoliberals when it comes to housing. They mistakenly believe that supply side economics applies absolutely to what is, instead a very complex mechanism. They have joined up with big developers because both love the Build baby build mantra. Kessler does not care about the elderly artists now in danger of losing their lofts where they live & work. He doesn’t care about the people on my SoHo block who rely on coins from collecting cans & whose homes are prime for replacement. And he doesnt care that the SoHo upzoning was really not about housing at all , but commercialization. Deborah Glick does care. She gets it. Which is why she supported the alternative plan that would have required deeply affordable housing & promoted reuse of existing structures.

While I understand Ryder Kessler’s preferences on a number of land-use issues (for example, favoring development for trickle down affordable housing and supporting restaurant sheds all over), I don’t particularly agree.

But what concerns me the most is that he seems critical of those who don’t feel as he does – people who have legitimate worries about sleeping at night or garbage or more luxury development tsunami etc.
So if he wins, how would he deal with constituents who have these real daily life concerns ?

Also strangely some of his “supporters” have suggested that Glick favors the affluent – but Ryder Kessler has gotten considerable support from wealthy people such as Andy Cohen and others.

They want a feudal society where people are supposed to own nothing and be happy while the broligarchs own everything and turn us all into serfs. If Ryder Kessler or Aaron Carr were on a ballot next to Trump, that would be the ONLY time I’d support Trump.

Nobi Hossain Your serfs reference reminds me of F.A Hayek who is basically the patron saint f the new cult that now rules America. Affordable, ha! Its a Big Lie thats a disservice to anybody that any government subsidized anything (post WTO GATS) can be “affordable” to most people, it has not been that way since the negotiations for the Uruguay Round began in the 1980s. Its the same way with health care, which nis described in many circles as the one bright spot in a dismal economy. What I mean to say is that the Scramble for America is going on and New Yourk is targeted as ground zero for what sociologist Saskia Sassen has called expulsions in her recent book. Which so far I am reading it now, its quite good. If you understand the points its trying to make. This is happening to other indigenous folks al around the world. Yes, its come to that, the Poor are the new Black all around the world. Read up on the history of todays globalists and globalism movement. The intent of the WTO was to lock in the mobility of money so there were no limits to the speculation. Thats the problem. Freedom in America now refers to freedom to make extreme amounts of money with your money, if you have it. That means most of us are in the way of this monster and will likely end up elsewhere. Maybe Africa. Its warm. The cost of heating and cooling and water (all necessities)are going to be much more significant in the future, I suspect. We need to end the use of antidemocratic treaties that override democracy. Turning politicians into crooks. In response to democratic outcries they intend to make as many as possible into people ineligible for help. Its a preemptive strike by the well-connected insiders against all humanity.

Kessler got trounced 71 to 29%.

This defeat clearly indicates that the people who actually live and vote in the district wanted no part of his neoliberal notions of upzoning SoHo/NoHo/Chinatown espoused by Open NY or the Open Restaurants land-grab espoused by StreetsPac, another big supporter.

Not to mention the families of the district didn’t seem to pay much attention to the so-called Working Families Party, a paper tiger for sure, who also endorsed him.

It is gratifying to see a community united against a common threat.

‘Kessler got trounced 71 to 29%.’

LOL! Not even close! NYC needs to leave it’s thriving neighborhoods alone in all 5 boros. The entire point of upzonings is to destabilize NYC’s good neighborhoods.

“Open New York has repeatedly refuted that characterization that they are ‘secret shills for the real estate industry'”
It’s a fact that Open New York was founded and is still largely run by real estate speculator Ben Carlos Thypin. David Brand really got taken for a ride with this story. Next time do a little more research.
