The Boro Presidents should be demanding that the mature trees that we have now be protected. It takes 30 years for a tree to reach its full environmental ability.
The Parks Dept has a plan to remove 78 mature trees in Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, the city allowed a plan in East River Park that removes 1000 trees. 2000 trees were cut down in the Graniteville Wetlands in Statin Island. Many other mature trees have been cut down in parks and around the city. Save the trees that exist now with their large canopies and plant new trees too. Many new young trees do not survive. Stop the Parks Department from cutting down trees.

In making our sidestreets more shady, it would also be prudent for the city to ENFORCE its existings laws regarding adequate mightime lighting at the front entrances of apartment buildings- so as to help prevent these more shady enclaves from bevoming dark havens for criminals.
