New York City is too big to ever have tech or anything else dominate it the way tech dominates cities like San Francisco and Seattle. You talk about middle-class jobs. NYC under deBlasio has done nothing to retain the thousands of well-paying middle-class back office finance and IT jobs that have fled NYC for NJ and the southern cities. My neighbor’s IT job with a large lower Manhattan based international bank moved to Whippany, NJ. The commute from SI to Whippany is grueling so he moved his family to NJ. Another neighbor’s NYC-based finance job moved to North Carolina.
