Around Camaguey restaurant on Primary Day, even people who went to the polls had little faith that the officials they voted for would make good on their campaign promises.

Early indications were that turnout in the 2013 primary was somewhat higher around the borough. Incumbents survived, and established candidates prevailed over insurgents, in Council races.

They’re paid workers, in many cases. But a few insist that the money doesn’t trump principle: One claims he turned down a Republican candidate who was offering more.
