    Thank you for the article! I heartily agree with these.

    However, on your BQE comment, I’d take it a step further. We need to be working assiduously toward wholesale removal of our urban highway overpasses, filling in the trenches, and reknitting our street grid back together, rather than spending valuable time and $ trying to liven up these highways dank, polluted, noisy underbellies.

    Until they’re not raining toxic soot and NOX and SOX and carcinogens from tires and asphalt onto the space below, they will never be safe or welcoming for people. The idea of a market or playground or even bike lane underneath, where people might be breathing, is kind of, erm, nauseating. :)

    I’m not arguing against trying to make the experience better, but I’d recommend spending the design time and $$ working on a bolder plan to fix the overlying problem, as it were.
