Many won’t send them back because of forced testing. It should be voluntary like it is throughout the rest of the state. Coercion is illegal and you’ve stripped the rights of staff and students that would have been in buildings and actually learning rather than this sham of “distance education.”

It is true that the public school system needs 100 percent of the students returning. Understandably, with covid variants prevalent in New York City, and the CDC stating that the country in “not out of the woods yet” regarding the pandemic, parents will have reservations about returning the children to school. New York City has issues with crime – many New Yorkers have reservations about taking a ride on the subways as well. Mayor De Blasio has a great deal on his plate when it comes to improving health and safety in New York City. Perhaps the budget that the governor and the state has approved, which gives large sums of money to education, will help to improve the quality of life in NYC.
