The headline is funny, because cameras cannot and do not save lives. They take pictures. Studies show they have minimal or even negative effects on safety due to the erratic driving and speedometer fixation they cause. The speedometer fixation is the biggest concern in a place like NYC because you need the driver focused on the road, not his gauges. Getting a ticket in the mail weeks later does nothing to stop the behavior. A real cop pulling over that driver does.

Interesting. Can you share links to those studies? I wonder if a cop perhaps would cause erratic driving and speedometer fixation, too. One does notice some weird patterns when a state trooper is visible along the highway. A driver fixated on his speedometer might not be that much worse than a driver scanning the rear-view for flashing lights.

This is just an alternative tax on ppl. It will only exacerbate people moving to either Jersey or Westchester and take away tax dollars from NYC. This is not a solution.

I spend more time looking for cameras now than I do focusing on the road. Just another way of nyc sucking every last dollar out of the middle class.

Total BS. More sticking it to drivers . Can’t wait to vote him out.
