Instead of discussing the governor’s proposals you simply take the usual bleeding heart routine to issue: any changes are bad and are a return to the bad old days. Well maybe some of us, with a bit more perspective, are tired of turnstile criminals, arrested, no bail, and then arrested again and repeat. It has to stop.

Thank you for this insightful article. Where crime has gone up its been going up across the country, with the pandemic reducing mental health services access, addiction services and increasing barriers to housing, which led to more people in poverty and on the streets. Also anyone with legal system involvement are denied jobs and housing/apts at every turn.
We stand on the necks of people who have spent time in prison or jail (or otherwise been arrested) and while standing on their necks yell at them to get up. Society must lift people up and give more people mental health services, addiction services and safe affordable homes to live in. Gov Hochul’s aproach won’t work indeed!

Its all happening because of trade commitments to cut government subsidies of all kinds. Outsourcing will result in massive job losses, (guest work is cheaper) and selling natural gas will both double its cost and result in a huge amount of redevelopment in cities of the huge amount of obsolete old buildings. Electric heat will be enabled by vast increases in nuclear power, thanks to energy source agnosticism laws. Shhh! They want to discourage poor people from any eligibility for any benefits which cut into corporate profits. WTO changed everything in 1995. Its our responsibility to foreign investors that we not expropriate their property. Inequality is seen as a plus, not a negative.

Crime rates fell substantially starting around 15 yrs after Roe vs, Wade.

Because they are taking back all the discretionary things they want to disqualify as many as possible form government welfare benefits that cut into corporate profits like education and water. Europe gets water. Buy or die.
