Yes to every point you make. Thousands of us tried and tried to get a more truly resilient environmentally sound flood control plan for East River Park along the Lower East Side waterfront through many hearings and protests. We failed. Our new park atop a giant levee is still less than half finished after four years. It destroyed more than a thousand mature trees that had survived Hurricane Sandy.
Many good wishes in your effort. Beware of Dean Fuleihan, slated to be our next first deputy mayor. He was the one in the de Blasio administration who shoved a drastically revised and massively destructive East Side Coastal Resiliency plan down our throats.
Maybe you can persuade him and the new mayor what should happen on our coastlines to protect us in the face of storm surges, sea level rise and heavy rainfall rather than using concrete, artificial turf and other destructive resources that hasten climate change.
