    These type of plans fall short of what really needs to happen to sustain public housing. The mayor will do a little of what these groups are asking because taking from Paul to pay Peter puts Paul at risk.

    What has to happen is that the tenants from public housing have to be empowered. In the way that the mayor wants to turn over public land to private developers that same opportunity on a smaller scale can be done with the tenants. For those folks who are financially incapable of participating in such approach what these groups have suggested can be applied for those folks. It wouldn’t be such a burden for the city at that scale.

    An alternative plan has been submitted to the mayor called NYCHA’S LEGACY FOR THE FUTURE. It addresses NYCHA’S 60M operating cost deficit, its 17B restoration cost and the quality of life issues, which the EBC and IAF don’t address.
