From an 28 year Rochester, NY Veteran Arson Investigator’s view, your article was spot on! We still have much more work to do to quell this violent weapon of choice. I say violent weapon because that is what best describes it.
Our City’s administration, law enforcement and prosecutors are 100% behind the work we do.
A victim of arson will NEVER forget the fear of the flames the escaped, never. As I quoted many years ago, “The danger of arson should never be remembered by it size, but by increments of fear!”

You are missing one huge point. Fires reported as arson to the NYPD are done so by the FDNY Fire Marshals in the field. Since the number of “catching” Marshals has been drastically reduced, the number of reported arson fires has also dropped. The NYPD hates arson stats because so many go unsolved which makes them look bad. They won’t even classify arson as a violent felony. It’s all a numbers game, I know, I’m a retired Marshal who worked the Bronx before the geniuses at 9 Metrotech closed the Bronx base.
