There’s $1.1 billion in the city’s capital budget for the controversial East Side Coastal Resiliency plan that will take this inopportune time to demolish 2.4 miles of coastal parkland along the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The city can build floodwalls for half the money and not destroy the park needed for social distancing, fresh air, outdoor classroom space. ESCR is a long-term project that won’t bring flood control for many years but will kill the only big open space in a crowded, unwealthy neighborhood. We need affordable housing more.

    It begins.

My essential need is more deserving than your essential need especially because my name is on a check that will be cut from my essential need listing.

Real story: there is no money for any of it.
