NYC commercial property assessments and taxes go up every year. The looming $15 minimum wage is doing more to kill off businesses in NYC than anything else. This bill is an intrusion into private property rights. If this bill passes then NYC can forget about any new retail construction. No developer is going to build retail spaces or new shopping centers in a hostile regulatory environment where profitability is doubtful.

“If this bill passes then NYC can forget about any new retail construction.” — not a bad thing. we already have more than we need, and thanks to Amazon, etc. we’ll need even less in the future, so thanks for making a good point and let’s end new retail development to make what we currently have stronger.
