Former CLARIFY interns at work.City Limits, a nonprofit investigative news organization that’s been covering New York for 45 years, is extending the application deadline for its youth journalism training program for fall 2021.
The City Limits Accountability Reporting Initiative for Youth, or CLARIFY, is a paid, remote internship opportunity for New York City high school students who will be entering 11th or 12th grade in the fall of 2021. Students who graduated high school in June 2021 are also eligible.
Interns will be trained in the essential tenets of reporting and news writing, including research, interviewing, investigative techniques, media ethics, story structure, photojournalism and more. Participants will spend eight weeks working on locally-focused news stories about important New York City issues, with the goal of getting those stories published in City Limits and in a student-produced newsletter. They’ll get the chance to work closely with City Limits’ reporting staff as well as hear from other journalist guest speakers working in the field. Our former CLARIFY interns have gone on to report and write for outlets like the New York Times, Rolling Stone, City and State, Gotham Gazette and more.
The fall program will take place Tuesday and Thursdays on Zoom from 4 to 6 p.m., starting Oct. 26 and ending Dec. 21. The new deadline to apply is Oct. 8.
