Having family currently incarcerated at Sing Sing Correctional I can honestly say I’m worried. I was just informed last night that the virus has claimed another inmate this weekend. Little too no information is given regarding the pandemic or it’s effects within the facility leading to speculation & fear. The only compensation is Jpay gifting 3 free phone calls & 3 stamps weekly. Nice gesture, but what about mask, sanitizer and disinfectant? Social distance is not enforced, food is being prepared and served by workers not wear mask, gloves or any type of protected clothing. Those who are experiencing any symptoms are treated with ibuprofen and sent back to their cells. Correctional officer were just allowed to wear mask and only few do because it is not provided but instead reserved for medical personnel only. There is little to no proper ventilation and the heat is on making the facility literally a petri dish. Phone time is allotted 30 minute but is now 5 to 15 minutes depending on the officer (this is after standing on line for a period of time). These inmates should be informed and educated on prevention and how to protect themselves and provided with the necessary supplies needed to remain safe. Our incarcerated love ones deserve their basic right to be met and not violated.

I worked at Sing Sing for many years as a NYS corrections officer and I have no sympathy for most who are incarcerated. As a matter of fact I hated 90% of them.
But I also know many are incarcerated for another’s crime, and for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I know many had served their sentence, but still continue incarceration through discriminatory decisions made by the NYS Division of Parole, because an inmate continues to state the innocence of his conviction.
Yes, I understand its hard to decipher who is innocent and who is not.
Those who without a doubt convicted of murder because of a witnesses testimony, along with proven evidence and video, let them die in prison.
Have them sign a contract of Honor, if you commit another felony crime, you will be sentence to 25 years with the possibility of parole at 25 years, unless a homicide was committed.
    Let them go…

      Yo Co Bermudez

I remember you at Sing Sing, you were the OIC and you ran a tight ship.
I knew my stuff in my cell was safe when you were there.
You were no joke kid. I’m going to be the first to say, I’m glad I had you as a co.
