Legislature Closing in on Narrow Reforms to the State’s Parole System

In regards to prison reform, I am just wondering why we don’t have a “good time” bill yet. So many other states have that for inmates. This way an inmate doesn’t have to sit around waiting for the parole board hoping to be released, and yet continues to get hit with extra time. If they have been an excellent inmate during their sentence then they should be rewarded, not continue to be punished.

I have personally seen an issue that I believe has to do with understaffed parole offices.
I believe that the reason there is a revolving door with violations is because there are not enough supervising officers in each area.
Look at it this way, at all times each P.O. has a full case load. Everyday inmates are being released. If no one violates, who will supervise these new parolees coming home? It’s a scary thought because if no one is really violating, parole WILL pick violators and send them back to make room for the new parolees. Hence there HAS TO BE violations to make room.
My advice to parolees, fly as straight as you can! Don’t be one of the chosen to once again wear those greens!

PAROLE ONLY COMPLICATES the lives of parolees due to receiving no help or assistance from parole officers, but only being thretened to be sent back to prison and place in programs like REVCOR which do not help, but only monitor parolees for parole officers personal interest and to performs welfare fraud by taking multiple urine tests and giving false positives to keep parolees in the program for many mounths. This program is useless in assisting parolees who may have a real addiction or had one or two positives for Marijuana and then be forced by their parole officer to attend REVCOR program and to spend most of their quality parole time sitting in this program when in fact they can be using this time to really get their lives together with family, jobs, and obtaining housing. These parole laws must be changed and soon.

The parole officers at 15 second Ave Brooklyn parole division are very nasty and disrespectful towards the parolees, they are mostly women and have unprofessional attitudes in dealing with men.. that place needs to be investigated by those in Albany n.y. parole Division and many of those P.O.s transfered to other Divisions and trained in professionally dealing and assisting parolees in properly reintegrating into sociaty.

I agree with Mac Mogul. There are way too many female parole officers who seem like they have on a power trip and have a bone to pick with their male parolees. I think it is sad that they are allowed to humiliate, disrespect, and antagonize the parolees. Most of these men end up right back in prison/jails on technical violations like curfew. These female officers abuse the system and quite frankly they need to have more psychological evaluations and investigations done by Albany Parole Division Board. It is only a matter of time! #TimesUp4Wmn2😝

I am a parolee convicted on a non violent offense ( DWI and AUO 3rd) never had a violent offense in my life. I’ve been out over a year and a half now. I have complied with all my terms and conditions of parole without any issues at all. I still have to report on a weekly basis and have a 7pm to 7am curfew. I personally think this is a little ridiculous and extreme.
