Shutting down the phony process was exactly what was needed.

City Planning already has a finalized plan, these meetings are a sham.

Ask Inwood how all their hard work and thoughtfulness in creating a workable alternative was treated? Even with the support of the Burroughs president? It was tossed out entirely as they already had their finalized plan.

I commend these protesters. These meetings are a total sham and but shutting it down they are protecting their community. Agree with the comment above, talk to Inwood about how these meetings worked for them!

How about rezoning Riverdale with Mandatory Inclusionary Housing? Wouldn’t developers want some of that real estate? And you could do some integration and creation of affordable housing that wouldn’t be displacing people.

“The plan to study the Southern Boulevard area for a rezoning emerged after New York State decided to convert the Sheridan Expressway from an underused expressway into a pedestrian-friendly boulevard after decades of advocacy from local groups. The construction of the future boulevard is underway and will cost an estimated $75 million.”

The State is NOT converting the Sheridan expressway to a pedestrian friendly boulevard. They are EXPANDING the highway in a community with some of the highest asthma rates in the city, state and country! They are also keeping 11 lanes of traffic on the Sheridan that pedestrian will have to cross to get to the parks instead of reducing the number of lanes to create more developable land for affordable housing and other community needs. This is not the vision the community had, it is a photo opportunity for the state and Governor that care more about ribbon cutting than addressing the real pressing needs of the local community.
