First of all, Bill Bratton and Jack Maple should NOT get credit for Compstat. It was started by Chief of Patrol (then Captain) Mario Selvagi in the 101 precinct in Far Rockaway. As a captain, Selvagi was unable to get the police MIS people to provide the number crunching so he had to make do with pin maps.

When Bratton became commissioner the first time, he got rid of Selvagi who was probably the first person to apply an original thought process to policing a large city. He assigned officers to where the crime was!

Then why does Jack Maple have a floor named after him?
