Brilliant piece of journalism. I guess there is no end to Dr. Carson’s talents. Great on foreign affairs and knowing the foreign leaders by name. He has papers out that explain his method of taking care of health, financing, dealing with Congress, creating jobs, eliminating unemployed, eliminating illegal immigrants, etc., etc. Like I said….no end to his talents and brilliance!

All this history aside, it’s no comparison to what is faced now, in its magnitude, commitment and current history. “Fear of refugee radicals” suits your intention to ridicule Dr. Carson’s opinion. But unwillingness to commit suicide as a country, would be more accurate.

Thanks for the interesting history lesson, but none of the examples you mention talk about restricting immigration during times of war. Whether we have declared war on ISIS and other radial Islamic groups or not, they have declared war on us. The regular rules for refugees just don’t apply here. Dr. Carson’s priority is protecting Americans from our enemies. His comments are much like FDR’s before World War II, and the implementation of the Smith Act in 1940. That law made it a criminal offense to try to overthrow the government and required that all enemy aliens (even those already in the US) be fingerprinted and registered. Those from banned organizations or groups would be deported before entering the country, thus inhibiting immigration from Germany, Italy and Japan. (FDR also moved control of the the Immigration Service from the Dept. of Labor to the Dept. of Justice to improve screening.) In this example alone, you can see that America does have a history of trying to stop our enemies from infiltrating our country, especially in times of war. ISIS could easily infiltrate Syrian refugees coming here, just as they were part of the migration into Europe. We do not have the ability to accurately screen out the bad guys because of the lack of records available to confirm identities. Why should we take the risk? America is still the most generous and compassionate nation in the world. We absolutely will continue to help the refugees and perhaps add a no-fly zone to more humanitarian aid. I’ve been supporting charities that have been helping the refugees for over a year. Have you?

One difference between ISIS and the examples above is that ISIS wants to kill Americans, destroy our way of life and our country. They are eager to die for this. I am not ready to take a chance that there will NOT be ONE terrorist in the refugees coming to my country.

The difference is that Italians, the French, and even the Russians – as a group – aren’t out to kill us. Islamist extremists are. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell if any of the Syrian refugees are extremists. Until we know for sure, why be stupid? Somehow, I think Paris would opt for a “do over” on some of their refugee policies if given a chance.

This article is typical of progressives. Minimize a deadly threat to the US by using unrelated 100 year old examples. If even 5 ISIS members get through the refugee process they then have the capability of killing hundreds, making Paris look like a picnic in comparison. If we let any refugees in then let it be the Arab Christians, who are being killed every day by your precious muslims.
