New York State bought out and tore down all the homes in Oakwood Beach, which basically no longer exists as a neighborhood anymore. The homes there were mostly converted summer bungalows, some nearly 100 years old. I know it’s expensive but it might be cheaper in the long run to buy out homes in areas that repeatedly flood during hurricanes and rezone the areas to parkland.
